Competency Assessment
“Competency” is a word in the legal world. It means whether or not an individual is assessed as able to legally make decisions on their own behalf.
An attorney is usually the person who contacts us to do a Competency Evaluation. The main question I answer is “Is this individual able to make decisions on their own behalf?” I will typically add that the individual might benefit from additional care or treatment in relevant areas, but that is above and beyond what a Competency Evaluation asks for.
